SPECIES RECORDS FIELDS (#marks fields) #plot TEXT TREND plot identification number as for site data. #determined CATEGORICAL (either “yes”, “no” or “genus”) A convenience field specifying whether the species name is determined (yes), only to genus (genus) or not determined (no – in which case a free text description/identifier is given in quotes). This field is primarily included so that the data can be sorted and undetermined records removed for analysis, if required. #species CATEGORICAL Matching vascular plant taxa on South Australian plant census. #voucher TEXT Unique voucher number with plot code and numbered from 1 for each individual plot, e.g. BLA-A-12 (Blackhill site, replicate plot A, voucher number 12 from that plot). #date TEXT (date format) Date of species record (initially same as plot establishment date, but additional records may be added in future for monitoring). #observers TEXT Initials/surname of species record observers – generally identical to site observers. #VCA% NUMERIC (%) Visual estimate of cover (projected foliage cover) to nearest 5% or scored 1% as present but low cover. Scored as OUT for selected plots that have point-intercept cover data if the species was not recorded in the 30 x 30 m plot but was scored in the 50 x 50 m plot. #point-intercept%cover NUMERIC (%) Percent cover for each species hit (number of hits/1000*100) #phenology-buds CATEGORICAL: 'present' or blank Plants have buds but no open flowers #phenology-flowers CATEGORICAL: 'present' or blank Fresh, open flowers (±buds) #phenology-fruits CATEGORICAL: 'present' or blank Developing or mature fruits present #phenology-senescent_flowers CATEGORICAL: 'present' or blank Flowering remnants but no fresh flowers, i.e. flowering recently finished #phenology-senescent_fruits CATEGORICAL: 'present' or blank Fruiting remnants only (i.e. propagules recently dispersed) #maturity-seedlings CATEGORICAL: 'present' or blank Seedlings present #maturity-saplings CATEGORICAL: 'present' or blank Immature individual(s) (not yet flowering/fruiting) present (generally applied to trees) #height NUMERIC (m) or TEXT Approximate maximum height of typical individuals estimated visually in metres, and including inflorescences. Casual observation intended for general reference rather than systematically collected/measured. Given as “NA” for species such as mistletoes, or “prostrate” for matt-forming species.
